What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your initial physiotherapy appointment at our Geelong clinic runs for approximately 45–60 minutes and includes a thorough assessment before any hands-on treatment begins. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Subjective assessment — Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, history, activity levels and goals. The more detail you can provide, the better.
  2. Physical examination — A structured physical assessment of the affected area, including movement testing, strength assessment and special orthopaedic tests where relevant.
  3. Clinical diagnosis — Your physiotherapist will explain what they’ve found, what is likely contributing to your condition and what the treatment pathway looks like.
  4. First treatment — Time permitting, your physiotherapist will begin treatment in the same appointment typically a combination of hands-on therapy and initial exercise guidance.
  5. Home program — You’ll leave with a clear, simple home exercise program and a plan for the sessions ahead.

Please wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. Bring any relevant imaging, referral letters, and your Medicare, private health or funding claim details. If you have a WorkCover or TAC claim, please have your claim number ready.
